When I was Senior Vice-President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, I ran the Global Women’s Health Office with a remit to improving women’s health Globally through Standard setting and Education. This was achieved through a programme of development including capacity building in maternity systems in under resourced countries, Life Saving Skills and other training courses emphasising on the training of the trainers and sustainability, development of a Global Fellowship Programme and providing education, training and assessment skills for health professionals. We supported this through our international network of Fellows and Members and volunteer professionals linking with other charities and professional bodies funded by grants and donations.

Clinically, I am a Maternal Medicine expert with a particular interest in patient safety. My main areas of clinical interest is preeclampsia, early pregnancy failure, premature labour and delivery. I have been involved in development of commercial tools for the prediction of preeclampsia, preterm labour and fertility. I was the Obstetric Clinical Advisor to the National Patient Safety Agency and am Chairman of the Centre of Maternal and Child Enquiries Through this I have experience and expertise in incident reporting and root cause analysis as well as confidential Enquiries into Maternal and Neonatal Death. I provide hospitals with maternity service assessments assess clinicians in trouble and mentoring those requiring support.
