Kim Hinshaw has been a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at Sunderland Royal Hospital since 1994 and is also Director of Research & Innovation for the Trust.

He trained in Newcastle upon Tyne/NE England and was Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen, and has clinical and research interests in high-risk pregnancy & intrapartum (labour) care, obstetric ultrasound, early pregnancy assessment and obstetric skills-drills training.

Kim is the past-Chairman of the ALSO (Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics) UK Board, and a member of the MOET (Managing Obstetric Emergencies and Trauma) UK Working Group, teaching skills in rare labour ward emergencies both nationally and internationally.

He co-developed the Prehospital Obstetric Emergencies Training (POET) course for paramedic ambulance staff. Kim is a medical advisor in obstetrics & gynaecology to the Swinfen Charitable Telemedicine Trust and has been a leading clinical trainer and medical advisor for Baby Lifeline for the last 10 years.

Kim is presently a member of the UKOSS Steering Group and is the MoD appointed Honorary Consultant Advisor in O&G to the British Army (2010 – present). He has had a long-term interest in postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology at national level and has chaired several RCOG education committees (including his present role as Chair of the RCOG Curriculum Committee).

Outside of work he enjoys his family, travel, rugby and fine food!
