Senior Midwifery Lecturer, Birmingham City University

Lee has been a midwife for twenty two years, He has worked all over the UK and abroad; however, his main area of clinical
practice centered around the labour ward and obstetric emergencies.

He has been a member of the advisory faculty of the Advanced Life Support for Obstetrics charity for over fifteen years and this has enabled him to teach how to deal with childbirth emergencies all over the world to a range of different professionals.

This expertise has led to him being asked to give opinion and commentary on legal cases and he has now developed a keen interest in the law; therefore, in order to develop himself he is now undertaking a law degree in order to work more effectively in medical negligence.

He is one of only 140 male midwives on the register of the NMC. As such he has participated in television, print, and radio interviews and documentaries. This has allowed him to spread a positive message about midwifery and the universities whilst answering their questions.

Outside of his professional life he has two keen interests. He is a keen participant in Military style exercise. This is a hangover from his military background. This year he took a team of twenty student midwives to undertake the Royal Marines Commando endurance course in Lympstone. By doing the challenge they raised £2500.

He is also an enthusiastic keeper of tropical marine fish which he finds relaxing and challenging.
