Dr Ed Johnstone is a Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine at St. Mary’s hospital, Manchester.
He trained as undergraduate in Leeds and then progressed to specialty training in the Yorkshire Deanery. During his training programme he took time out to obtain a PhD in trophoblast cell biology at the University of Alberta, Canada and University of Manchester, UK. He then returned to Yorkshire to sub-specialise in fetal medicine before returning to the University of Manchester in 2009 as a Senior Lecturer.
His research and clinical focus is fetal growth restriction and he supervises and leads multiple project examining both the placental development of the treatment of this condition using basic science, ultrasound and MRI techniques. In addition he manages the fetal growth restriction service at St. Mary’s and is leading the coordination of the management of these babies across the North West.
