
Academic Achievements
Gold Medal for ENT and Head & Neck Surgery and Gold Medals in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in Medical School. He was also awarded Gold Medals for the Best Candidate in Master of Surgery in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, both Part 1 & Part 2 examinations.
Publications
He has published several abstracts in National and International Scientific Meetings and over 50 Chapters and Review articles in various aspects of obstetrics and gynaecological practice. His special interests include intrapartum fetal monitoring and massive postpartum haemorrhage. He has also contributed to the development of RCOG Good Practice Guideline ‘The Maternity Dashboard: Clinical Performance and Governance Score Card’, which is now being implemented by many Trusts in the UK and have been recommended by the Chief Medical Officer’s Report.
He has co-edited a Textbook on ‘Obstetric and Intrapartum Emergencies: A Practical Guide to Management’.
Teaching and Training
He has been invited to both National and International Scientific Meetings to lecture on fetal monitoring and acute gynaecology and early pregnancy ultrasound. He is one of the course leads of the Basic Practical Skills Course at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He is the course coordinator for ‘CTG’ and ‘High Risk Labour and Intrapartum Emergencies’ courses at St. George’s University of London.
Contribution to the wider NHS
He was the RCOG Representative to the Maternity Services Improvement Board (MSIB) of NHS London and has been involved in the development of new models of care and to institute measures to improve maternity services in London. He was also a member of the Clinical Expert Group (CEP) set up to advice the Department of Health and NHS London on the future of maternity services. As a member of workforce task group of Healthcare for London, he has been involved in the workforce planning in Maternity services. He was also a member of the Intrapartum Score Card Advisory Group of the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) and was a member of the Clinical Leaders Network (CLN). Locally, he is a member of the South West NHS London Maternity Network. He is a member of the Editorial Board for National e-learning on CTG and is also a member of the International Expert Panel on Fetal Monitoring.
