Thomas Interiors hand over Heathrow Royal Suite

Working at a location like Heathrow always means that we carry out our work in diverse and challenging locations, across the Airport campus. Our most recent project however has provided our team with an opportunity  to work in an area of the Airport, which is normally reserved for Royalty and high profile diplomatic visitors to Heathrow Airport.The Heathrow Royal Suite, which was opened in 1990 has seen many high profile Visitors, from Nelson Mandela to the Pope pass through its doors, was in need of a much needed update, to meet with the standards of  the wonderful facilities which have been added at Heathrow thanks to the completion of VIP Suites in Terminal 2 and Terminal 5.

Derek Freeland, Construction Director for Thomas Interiors stated;

As part of our Framework Agreement with Heathrow Airport Ltd, we regularly work within the various Terminals and facilities located within the Heathrow Campus but it is rare that we find ourselves in the position of working in a location such as the Heathrow Royal Suite.

Locations like the Royal Suite are seen as commercially valuable assets to Heathrow and it is important that the overall passenger experience for all those visiting these locations is second to none, with no effort spared to ensure that they come back to Heathrow when flying in or out of the country in the future. With the improvements made to passenger experience at Heathrow since the completion of Terminals 2 and 5, it became necessary for Heathrow to refurbish the Royal Suite, to ensure that the facility met with the expectations of those using the facility.

The challenges of the project were clear when we were approached to carry out the work. The facility is located in an area of the Airport which can only be reached by an Airside vehicle and the programme that we had to work was set in stone, with David Cameron already confirmed to be using the facility the week following the final day of our work. Time was of the essence and a lot of work needed to be carried out.

Thanks to the excellent efforts of our team, our client is very pleased with the results of the refurbishment and we hope Mr Cameron enjoys his improved surroundings when he visits Heathrow later this month.
