Tim Macartney has been a drama teacher, restauranteur, gardener, entrepreneur, author, organisation development consultant. Over a period of twenty years he was mentored and coached by Native American metis ‘Medicine’ people to learn the Earth Wisdom teachings that once informed the practice of our own British indigenous culture. In 1982, Mac trained as a gardener at the National Trust Plas Newydd estate. From here he went on to an outdoor management training centre, where he created a ‘Medicine Wheel’ garden that was later featured in Radio 4, the Mail on Sunday, and ‘Alternatives’, an HTV series screened in 1984. The gardener later became one of the course facilitators, until in 1987 Mac went on to became the Head of Consultancy before starting Pathways, his own highly successful people and organisation development company in 1989.

Mac is the founder and CEO of Embercombe a social enterprise seeking to inspire committed action towards a truly sustainable world. Embercombe runs a series of courses including inspirational leadership development, team building, culture change processes and one to one executive coaching. It is a dynamic, adventurous enterprise that speaks to people from all walks of life, to engage, commit, and become active in work that will secure the future.

Mac’s book, Finding Earth, Finding Soul – the invisible path to authentic leadership published October 2007, is an impassioned and inspiring call for each of us to step up to the mark and make a contribution. It is a celebration of our Earth, an exploration of what makes an individual’s life meaningful, and a challenge to each one of us to become a leader.

“I was deeply touched by this gifted man’s journey and passion for nature”. Tex Gunning – Chairman Unilever Foods, Asia
