Dean Lomax is an award winning palaeontologist, scientist, author and motivational speaker. Working in the field of palaeontology (study of ancient life) he has travelled around the world working on many fascinating projects from excavating dinosaurs under the harsh, dry conditions of the American West to rediscovering new species of marine reptiles hidden away in museum collections.

Dean has written two books, numerous scientific papers and many popular articles. One of the books, called Dinosaurs of the British Isles, is a mega 400+ page publication documenting the entire history of British dinosaur discoveries. In addition, very recently, Dean was awarded a prestigious Gold Medal for ‘Excellence In Science’ (the Mendel Award) at the houses of parliament. Despite being young, he has achieved significantly in his area of expertise. All of this has been accomplished without initially pursuing a formal degree, opting for experience over further academic education. However, his experience subsequently led to his affiliation as an Honorary Scientist at the University of Manchester whereby he recently completed an MPhil.

Dean is an accomplished and experienced speaker for both educational and corporate audiences. He is able to bring a topic such as palaeontology to life, a subject often seen to be dry and dull. He also gives effective motivational speeches that demonstrate anything is possible if you have passion for your subject area even against the odds – through sheer determination, hard work and self-belief he got into the (very narrow and difficult-to-get-in-to) field of his choice, despite the odds stacked against him.

Recent feedback includes: “Dean’s passion and enthusiasm for his subject is very inspiring. He can capture and engage all generations with his love for his subject. To convey a discipline such as palaeontology so confidently to a broad audience is unique. Palaeontology comes to life”. Cheryl Williams: Director, Yorkshire Wildlife Park (YWP), South Yorkshire.
