Lead Practice Educator, Supervisor of Midwives – Princess Anne Hospital

Sally Burton is Lead Practice Educator and Supervisor of Midwives within the University Hospital of Southampton Foundation Trust and speciality lead for Maternal Health within the G.A.S (Ghana, Afrikids Southampton) partnership.

Since completing research into “The Safety Climate within the Delivery Suite” (2010), Sally has been keen to further the study recommendations.   Sally chairs the multi-professional “Positive Culture and Safety Team “locally and promotes human factor awareness and positive organisational cultures to maintain safety.

Sally contributed to the RCOG/Royal College of Midwives (RCM) online undermining toolkit (2014) to address undermining and bullying behaviour in maternity and gynaecology services.  Sally now lectures nationally and internationally on Human Factors and Positive Safety Cultures. This includes consultancy advice for other Maternity units in England, Ireland and Ghana.  Sally’s aim is to support other units to create innovative practical solutions, to help transform cultures and create safer systems.
